I just recently realized that we never really wrapped up this blog. So I’m writing now to say thanks for following along with us and our adventure this summer. It was pretty crazy, ever changing and a lot of fun and we appreciate you sharing that with us, even if in a small way. We hope you all had a great summer as well.
Mollie is now back in Ithaca, having just started her senior year at Cornell. To keep up with her, try her Twitter feed. I just recently moved to New York City, which I am blogging here and I have a Twitter feed as well. As you already know, my Flickr feed is here as well.
Again, thanks for reading and we hope to hear from you all soon.
And if they ask why we left in the first place
just tell them we were young and we were so in love
and we just needed space
and we heard about this place
they called the United States.
So we’re back in Indianapolis, finally. It was, as always, sad to leave the ranch but we were looking forward to being home. When we actually got home, however, we were surprised to find the kitched and bathroom were trashed. Food bags torn open, things thrown all over and covering everything were mud and … small paw prints. A raccoon had somehow gotten into the apartment and had a party in the bathroom and kitchen. The landlord assured me that they had seen the animal around the building and had already boarded up the place where it got in the outside and put out poison for it. So in the end, it was just a mess to clean up. I can’t complain about the fact that no one broke in and nothing got stolen or damaged. In any event, I put some final Montana pictures up. I don’t think this will serve as the final update as we still have at least two smaller trips planned. One to Kentucky to see Mollie’s friend who is a world champion equestrian vaulter and one to Michigan where my cousin is getting married. So stand by for a couple more updates and thanks for keeping up with us.
As always, click the picture above for the remaining Montana pictures.
This is a video that someone put together of the Ennis 4th of July Parade. You can watch the whole thing if you are really feeling up to it, but you can see us starting around 6:35.
Finally, an update! So the story goes like this: you already know the bit where we were supposed to be here at the end of May but it turned out they didn’t need us until the middle of June. Well, another miscommunication that occured was that we were under the impression that we were working full time for pay, whereas the ranch was under the impression that we were working part time for room and board. So at that point, we thought we were going to have to cancel the latter half of our absurd roadtrip, being that the wages we had counted on to pay for said trip were not going to happen. However, a week or so after being here, one of the staff members already hired for the summer abruptly decided that this wasn’t the job for her. So now there was a full time position open which we quickly snatched. So this is where we are now. Working on the ranch full time cleaning cabins, heliping with meals, washing dishes, pretty much doing whatever needs to be done. We’ll be here until the 20th or 21st of July when we head home so I can work The Biggest Block Party Ever in Columbus. That, of course, means we are still going to have to cancel the back nine of our roadtrip, which bums us out a little bit, but the next best option is definitely making some cash while living in this beautiful place and spending time with some fun people.
We’ve already done some great things, like some serious horseback riding while my family was here, we’ve seen lots of wildlife, we did a breakfast ride last week with another one planned on Friday (we haul grills, etc up the hill across the canyon and cook breakfast for the guests up there) and our last couple weeks look to be fun filled as well. Our old friends the Blair family are here this week too. So all in all I think it’s shaping up to be a pretty good summer.
As some of you Facebook users probably already know, I’ve uploaded some new pictures. Just a couple more to the final traveling set, which begin with this lovely one, and a new set for our time here at the ranch which you can get to by click the picture above.
We don’t get cell phone service at the ranch but we do get email so send us an email or leave us a message and we will be sure to respond as soon as we go into town next. I hope everyone is having a good summer and we look forward to seeing / talking to all of you when we return to civilization.
Hi from montana! We’ve been here since saturday and have already enjoyed Mackenzie River buffalo wing pizza (mmmm), a horseback ride, an energy class, amazing Cherisse Acosta food, and a lot of rain. We saw a cool herd of elk and Ben saw a bear but Mollie missed it while looking at cows. Oh well. We’re having a great time here and enjoying staying put for a while. We have limited internet and no cell service here but we check messages and have a phonecard so we can call people back. We’ll update pictures when we take some more. In the meantime, we hope everyone is enjoying their summers!!
Small photo update. Mostly dogs. Not joking. We’re still in Michigan with limited internet and we’ll be staying here for a little under a week before boarding the ferry on the morning of the 11th. Not much exciting to tell here. My cousin Jessie was here the last few days, getting things prepared for her wedding at the beginning of August. She’s getting married in our families’ backyard. It’s shaping up to be a lot of fun. Anyway, it’s been quite relaxing to stay in one place and get away from the heat of the south but a small part of me is looking forward to getting on the road again. We’ll update again when something interesting happens. As always, click the picture above for the newly uploaded photos. Thanks.
Stayed in St. Louis last night. Today we are headed to Michigan which will mean the blog will more than likely stay quiet for about a week as we will be stuck on dial-up there. After Michigan, we take the ferry across the lake and head to Montana. Mollie put up some more pictures from the last few days through Mississippi and Tennessee. As usual, click the picture for the Flickr set. We’re looking forward to getting a chance to catch up on the movies we’ve missed seeing and getting an oil change and all the things that staying in one place brings. Hope everyone is having a good summer!
We got some pictures from New Orleans put up. Click the picture above to see the set on Flickr. Expect some more pictures in the coming days. We are about to hit the road.
And yes, I got a fancy new hat.
