text 27 May Just like a Van Morrison song

We made it to Tupelo, MS tonight.  After a great day on the Natchez Trace through Nashville down into Mississippi, we are now enjoying the Yankee game (8-2 yanks in the 7th!).

The day started out nicely in Nashville with lunch at the famous Loveless Cafe.  Those biscuits are unbelievable.  You may have heard of them from the Food Network (“Throwdown with Bobby Flay”).  Unbelievable.  We picked up some treats for the road and headed to the Trace.

The Trace is actually very cool. It’s an old trading route used by Native Americans (the Choctaws and Chickasaws), animals, and settlers in the 1800s.  The settlers would float down the river with their goods to Natchez, MS or even New Orleans and then trek back up the Trace to get home.  The old route is pretty worn down but the paved byway is right next to it.  On the way, we saw Meriwether Lewis’s grave as well as some Indian burial mounds which were quite unbelievable. We only did about 160 miles today of the Trace (the whole thing is 444 miles) and we’ll see how far we get tomorrow.

We’ll be in NOLA by 5p tomorrow.
